Indie developer Red Barrels has released the launch trailer for their debut title, first-person survival horror game Outlast.

The action is set inside an asylum, and the developers made the protagonist, Miles Upshur, incapable of combat. That means that instead of going all Rambo on the hellish spawns, the player's main weapon is running.

As the trailer clearly shows, the game is highly atmospheric and creepy, and Miles' acrobatic skills are the only thing that will allow him to escape with his life.

Instead of using the usual shoddy, blinking flashlight, players will have to make use of the night vision feature on a camcorder in order to navigate the darker areas of the asylum, when they're not too busy running for their life, that is.

Outlast is out today in Europe (and since yesterday in North America) for the PlayStation 4, offered for free to PlayStation Plus members, and has been available on PC since September last year.
