Although most iPhone 4 and/or iPad owners are quite content with the desktop space provided by their smartphone or tablet, others are always looking for wider displays, and for this reason, Japanese company Sanwa has come up with a special adapter that will allow the owners of the aforementioned products from Apple to output 720p videos to external displays. Of course, being able to access video content stored on iTunes is certainly a plus for iPhone and iPad owners, but that's just the start of it, given the fact that just about every online content provision service out there has their own iOS app ready for a free download, practically turning the iDevices into a gateway to an endless array of videos, photos, songs, etc.

For this reason, creating a HDMI adapter that lets iPhone 4 and iPad users enjoy all of this content onto a HDTV seemed like a very good idea for Sanwa, whose device, nevertheless, also supports other file types as well, such as Photos and presentations, the latter over Keynote, while any GoodReader file is compatible as well.

As Akihabara News reports, Sanwa's adapter does have its shortcomings, namely the fact that it isn't compatible with earlier iPhones or iPods and wouldn't have much effect, as they're limited to standard definition.

Also, this thing isn't exactly super-tiny, given the fact that it measures 53.5 x 53 x 13 mm, which means that it will add a bit of bulk to one's smartphone or tablet.

The adapter should be out soon, priced at 5980 Yens (the equivalent of $73) in Japan, but, unfortunately, no info has been yet provided regarding the possible availability on US or European markets.

However, we certainly hope that this will be the case, since we're quite sure that quite a lot of iPhone 4 or iPad users will be more than happy to get themselves such a product.
