A very interesting multi-purpose machine from Quataris

As you probably see around yourselves on a daily basis, multi-functional devices are really beginning to take up an ever increasing role in our lives. This is quite a natural trend, considering the huge technological leaps that occurred during the past few years, and one of the important....sub-trends, so to speak, is that of TV/PC combos. And one of the coolest devices of this type I've come across lately is the one presented by the Hong Kong based systems integrator Quataris (and pointed out by LinuxDevices.com), namely the Ottimo model, which supports CPUs up to 2.8GHz, comes with 15-, 17-, or 19-inch screens, and is available pre-installed with SUSE Linux.

The first thing that impresses us about the Ottimo is its ultra-cool design and form factor, despite the fact that it features a wide screen and quite a lot of computing horsepower. Moreover, it comes with a combined kickstand and carrying handle, as well as with a large button on the front panel that switches the device from TV to computer. The people from Quataris inform us that the system can be customized on purchase according to the customer's requirements, but here's the list of the most important basic specifications this very interesting device has to offer:

- Dimensions: 46.48 cm x 42.16 cm x 7.87 cm; - Intel Pentium 4 processor with Intel 945GZ chipset; - 1 GB DDR II RAM at 533 MHz, upgradeable to 2GB; - 160GB ATA hard drive; - Optical drives: DVD/CD-RW combo drives; - Display: 19 inches widescreen TFT-LCD; - Aspect ratio 16:10; - Resolution: 1440 x 900@60HZ; - Viewing angle (H/V): 170/140; - Graphics chip: built-in Intel GMA950 graphics; - Features 2 big, round, full-bass speakers; - Works in: PAL / NTSC / SECAM systems.

No official news on either pricing or availability, but the people over at LinuxInsider inform us that the device will be available in the near future, for around 1000 Euro, which is not that big a price, considering the fact that you're getting both a PC and a TV for your money.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
