The creator of the Metroid series has stated that any sequel to the recently launched Other M installment will only be happening if publisher Nintendo agrees to bring in the developers at Team Ninja so that continuity between the two games can be assured.

Yoshio Sakamoto, who is known as the man behind the success of Metroid, talked to CVG and said, “I'm very grateful for the collaboration with Team Ninja coming up with Metroid Other M.”

He added, “As far as my opinion is concerned if we are going to make something similar to Metroid Other M in the future I cannot think that it would be possible for Nintendo to make it without collaborating with Team Ninja”.

The creator of the series is not sure about how he plans to use Samus Aran in the future, saying that he might create an adventure that will not be linked in any way to Other M and its story.

Metroid: Other M was launched in early September and was received with mixed reviews by critics.

The game mixes traditional Metroid gameplay, where Samus can move across three dimensional areas, jumping, shooting and morphing into a ball, with a new first person view where the main character is not able to move but can more accurately shoot the most powerful enemies she faces.

The transition between the two modes, one played with the Wiimote pointed at the screen and one played with it horizontally, can be problematic, especially in the game sections where switching is constantly needed to progress.

Some have also criticized Metroid: Other M because of the emotional nature of Samus Aran and her relationship with the supporting cast.

The first Metroid title appeared in 1986 for the Famicom Disk System, Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy Advance and there have been 11 titles associated with the series released so far.
