Gears of War 3, Epic Games' big upcoming third-person shooter, will no longer award any unlockable items to its players if they had other titles from the prestigious developer.

Epic Games, in order to promote its other releases through Gears of War 3, promised to add certain unlockable items if you already owned titles like Unreal Tournament 3, Shadow Complex or the upcoming Bulletstorm.

Sadly for Epic fans, the company will no longer be able to make good on its offer, as there are certain technical issues preventing it.

According to Gears of War 3 lead gameplay programmer Joe Graf, the Xbox Live data which needed to be read by the game in order to unlock new items can't be tampered with due to Microsoft's stringent security policies.

"Turns out that we can't read the Bulletstorm, Shadow Complex, and UT3 achievements for unlocks in Gears3 after all," he wrote on Twitter. "Sorry about that all."

Still, Gears of War fans shouldn't worry about not receiving any extra goodies for their loyalty, as the game will be able to detect if you have any Gears of War 1 or 2 achievements and award you accordingly.

"All of the Gears games are in our publisher/dev family, so those we will reward with unlocks," Graf added.

Previously, Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski promised that the company was adding in certain items for longtime fans who purchased other games from Epic, not just those in the Gears of War series.

Gears fans should still get ready for Bulletstorm, the company's newest shooter which will contain, in its special Epic Edition, a code for access into the upcoming Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta.

The testing stage is likely to kick off "sometime around April," according to an older statement from Epic Games President Mike Capps.
