Shonda Rhimes, the creator, head writer, executive producer and showrunner of some of the highest rated TV dramas, including “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal,” has come under heavy fire on social media for saying that she thought Lady Gaga’s Julie Andrews tribute at the Oscars 2015 was horrible.
Gaga was invited to the ceremony to perform a “Sound of Music” medley on the occasion of the film’s 50th anniversary, and she did such an amazing job that even surprise guest Julie Andrews was almost in tears.
The performance, which took the focus away from Gaga’s attention-grabbing tactics and put it back on her impressive voice, was one of the highlights of the night. Everyone thought she did a fantastic job; everyone but Shonda.
According to her, it was offensive to have to sit through Gaga’s performance, especially thinking that Andrews was there in the room, or that other talented singers, like Idina Menzel, were witnesses to such atrocity.
Shonda posted this on Twitter, so the reaction from the Little Monsters, as Gaga’s fans call themselves, was instant. Even some of Shonda’s own followers disagreed with her.
However, she’s not the kind to back down when she’s convinced she did nothing wrong, so she got the final say on this: she hated the performance and she stands by what she said. More importantly, she knows for a fact Gaga doesn’t care about her opinion, so why should anyone else?
That was not okay. I mean, Idina is there. She is right there. RIGHT THERE. And oh dear God, Julie had to hear that. #Oscars2015
