“Fifty Shades of Grey” causes family friction, apparently

Dakota Johnson returned to the Oscars last night, for the 2015 edition, but this time, she wasn’t there to accompany her mother on her big night, but came as an actress in her own right, star of her own successful franchise.

This time, she brought her mother Melanie Griffith as her date on her big night.

Dakota made her big screen debut a couple of weeks ago, with the much derided but widely successful “Fifty Shades of Grey,” a movie that Melanie is yet to see, for the simple reason that her daughter spends a lot of time in it sans clothes, getting her freak on with Mr. Christian Grey, a billionaire she fancies.

Asked by ABC’s Lara Spencer if she ever plans to watch the movie, Melanie said something that made Dakota snap and roll her eyes, in what was considered a typical “publicly embarrassing mom” moment.

However, despite what you might read online, it doesn’t seem to me like these two are openly fighting or that there’s family friction because of the film. First of all, not long ago, Dakota herself said she’d “banned” her mother from seeing the movie, so she’d have no reason to be upset that she didn’t see it yet, like she makes it sound in the interview.

At best, they were just messing around and looking to start some drama online, to boost the film’s profile even more. Considering it’s crossed the $400 million (€353.4 million) mark at the international box office in just 2 weeks, the effort doesn’t seem necessary.
