14 DAY TRIAL // Christina Aguilera has been gradually making her comeback into the spotlight after more than half a year’s absence, during which time she gave birth to her and fiancé Matt Rutler’s first child, daughter Summer Rain. Her appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscars 2015 afterparty was confirmation that she was truly “back.”
For such a special occasion, Christina opted for a truly special dress, a body-hugging number that clung to her body and showed off her curvier figure. She was white hot, except for the styling.
Gorgeous dress, bad styling
Christina’s shimmery white dress is Marc Bouwer, and though it might seem as a bit too severe for such a joyous occasion, what with the long sleeves and high neck and the fact that you can’t see a single inch of skin except for the hands and face, it’s actually gorgeous.
It’s also flattering on Christina’s new mom figure, with many voices online praising her for embracing her curves instead of trying to hide them under layers or loose fabrics. There is nothing to be ashamed of in rocking a new mom body.
Christina accessorized with hoop diamond earrings and an impressive collection of diamond rings, and a matchy silver clutch, for a complete Ice Princess look.
She styled her long blond hair, which she usually wears in loose curls framing the face, into a high and tight ponytail that could have made even Ariana Grande feel a pinch of jealousy. However, Ariana would never walk out with that bad hairdye job as Christina did.
Indeed, while her choice of gown and jewelry was without fault, Christina erred on the styling side, as she tends to do a lot on the red carpet: the hairdye job was bad (the roots were freshly done and one shade lighter than the rest because of it), the makeup was bad (in the sense of “too much”) and she looked as if she’d dipped herself in bronzer. Her hands were looking particularly orange.
The diva is back
Then again, bad styling is something that Christina has been guilty of a lot in recent years: she is definitely not the kind of artist who knows the meaning of subtlety on the red carpet, as far as makeup goes.
She’s still amazing though: she consistently delivers good music and entertaining interviews, and she helps out with charity whenever she can. She’s also learned to keep her name out of the tabloids, after a period of (alleged) binge-drinking and club-hopping right after the divorce from Jordan Bratman.
More importantly, Christina is back! She’s back on The Voice as judge / mentor for the new season and she’s working on a new music album, which she teased might drop later this year.
Sure, she wears too much makeup and spray-tans herself to the point where she looks as if she’d just vacationed on the sun, but she delivers musically, which is what makes her faux-pas on the red carpet easier to overlook.
