John Travolta finally speaks on Oscars 2014 flub, urges us to “let it go”

John Travolta’s brief appearance at the Oscars 2014, when he introduced Idina Menzel on stage to perform, turned out to be one of the highlights of the night, though this was never his intention. In fact, if he’s to have a say in the hubbub that’s still ongoing, he would have us all to just let it go.

Travolta (wearing a very obvious wiglet, which has sparked some hilarity online) took to the stage to announce that Menzel was about to perform the Oscar-winning song “Let It Go” but, for some reason, he wasn’t able to read her name on the teleprompter.

So, instead of saying “please welcome the wickedly talented Idina Menzel,” he asked audiences to welcome the “wickedly talented Adela Danzeem.” His flub has even led to the creation of a special widget that lets you Travoltify your name, besides several fake Twitter accounts that have remained active ever since.

With all the uproar the flub has caused online, Idina Menzel has chosen to take the high road and not say anything about it. She did say that attending and performing at the Oscars was a dream come true, which is exactly the kind of thing that was expected of anyone to say.

Travolta, on the other hand, has kept his silence for long enough so, in a statement issued to Today through his publicist, he basically urges us to forget about it.

“I’ve been beating myself up all day. Then I thought ... what would Idina Menzel say, She'd say, Let it go, let it go! Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!” Travolta says.

Of course, chances of that stopping people from having fun online are slim, since it’s been a while since we’ve had such a funny meme. Travolta’s flub and Leonardo DiCaprio’s losing Best Actor again are two of the most trending topics online right now.

Just yesterday, before the widget that allows anyone to Travoltify their names had emerged, there were various other suggestions as to how the actor might have made the Oscars more memorable and one of them had him introduce some of the biggest stars in attendance at the gala.

Stanley Hooper (Bradley Cooper), Grouldie Hanz (Goldie Hawn), Lisa Manila Envelope (Liza Minnelli), Brad Spit (Brad Pitt), Jart Liters (Jared Leto), Hannah Kendrock (Anna Kendrick), Lunesta Knee-Congo (Lupita Nyong’o), Janet Loorenstein (Jennifer Lawrence), Cindy Block (Sandra Bullock), Maddow Mohogany (Matthew McConaughey), Bento Tinderbox (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Annjeen Jewels (Angelina Jolie) were just some of the most popular suggestions.
