Most actors would probably hold their Oscar statuette with both hands if they won one, but Jared Leto got caught up in the moment and dropped his shortly after he won one for Best Supporting Actor for his brilliant role in “Dallas Buyers Club.”

In the film, he plays a transgender woman who’s dying of AIDS and helps Matthew McConaughey’s character in setting up a “buyers club” to bring drugs from across the border to sell to fellow sufferers.

Leto’s statuette is now dented after he dropped it down the stairs back stage, the handsome star explains in a new interview cited by EntertainmentWise.

“I was letting some of the people that I work with take a picture with the Oscar, and I was carrying downstairs and boom. I hit the railing on the stairs and I put a little nick in the back of it. So you know, that's how it goes. It's already lived in, as they say,” Jared explains.

Well, at least he didn’t break it in half, which would have made it completely useless. Two halves of an Oscar aren’t really worth showing off to friends you have over, whereas a dented Oscar has history. Plus, you get to tell a funny anecdote for how it ended up like this.

From what Jared says, he will be showing it off to friends a lot because he’s placed it in his kitchen, on the counter.

“The Oscar is sitting in my kitchen, guarded by some vegan butter and a bag of popcorn! You know, they kind of end up in the kitchen because that's the first place that I go when I get home. You put your keys down and you take off your jacket and you put your Oscar in the kitchen,” Jared says in the same interview.

The role of Rayon marked Leto’s comeback to acting after a long hiatus during which he focused solely on his music, with the band 30 Seconds to Mars. He had had successful film performances before, but not like with this role, which has earned him many new fans.

Critics too raved about his performance, for which he also lost a lot of weight and dressed in drag. Leto is Method, so he wore women’s clothes for much longer than the duration of the shoot, starting with the weeks before it, so that he could understand better what Rayon would have felt walking down the street, with people staring at him.

“Dallas Buyers Club” also won Matthew McConaughey the Oscar for Best Actor.
