14 DAY TRIAL // Gwyneth Paltrow usually goes for understated for the red carpet but she rarely hits the mark with such force as she did at the Oscars 2012, rocking a white Tom Ford gown that earned raving reviews from fashion watchers.
The star, who prides herself with loving everything even remotely fashion-related, wore a design from Ford's upcoming collection and, in doing so, managed to steal everybody else's thunder.
Gwyneth rocked a white Tom Ford, floor-length, one-shoulder, body-hugging gown with sparkly accents on the shoulder – and a cape, no less.
The only other element that made the dress stand out was the back slit that, obviously, was there rather for practical reasons than on aesthetic considerations.
The cape wasn't so much a cape as it was a sleeveless coat of some sorts.
Gwyneth only wore it on the red carpet, ditching it while doing presenting duties with Robert Downey Jr. and at the Vanity Fair after party.
However, it was enough to get celebrity bloggers talking.
While fashion gurus applauded the star for her choice for a cape, stressing its neat, simplistic and very elegant line, which went perfectly with the dress, celebrity watchers only saw a cape – so jokes about Gwyneth wanting to take over from Iron Man instantly emerged online.
All jokes aside, Paltrow cut a very dramatic appearance on the red carpet, albeit understated.
To top off her look, she accessorized with Anna Hu jewels and Jimmy Choo “Koko” Platform Sandals.
For a perfect, sun-kissed look, she had makeup artist Leslie Lopez apply Skin by St. Tropez on her.
Gwyneth also opted for simplicity in terms of makeup and hair, with the latter standing out: she wore a simple, low ponytail, which went perfectly with the overall tone of her entire outfit.
As we also informed you yesterday, Gwyneth presented Best Documentary with Robert Downey Jr., introducing the winner with a little sketch that many watchers found only slightly funny but very forced.
