One of the couples of presenters at last night’s Oscars 2011 was the one formed by “Sherlock Holmes” co-stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law – and their few minutes on stage actually turned out to be one of the highlights of the evening.

The two took to the stage to present the award for Achievement in Visual Effects, which went to the team on Chris Nolan’s blockbuster “Inception.”

However, since one knows to expect the unexpected with these two, it was to be expected that they stray a bit from the traditional manner of presenting the nominees and the winner.

As Jude began to speak highly of the men and women who, thanks to the countless hours they invest in a project, make it possible for them, the actors, to become the characters the screenwriters and director imagined, Robert kept cutting in.

At one point, an apparently ticked off Jude told Robert to please be quiet because, to put it mildly, he would be nowhere without these people of whom he complained so much.

“It’s their moment,” Jude scolded his co-star and good friend.

“You know, if it wasn’t for them your closest association wait a superhero would have been in 2001. When you got busted in a cheap hotel with a woman dressed as Batgirl,” he added, in a direct reference to Robert’s colored past of drug use and arrests.

Not at all surprisingly, Robert took the joke as it was meant to be taken – and even added some clarifications himself.

“Okay, first of all, that cheap hotel room cost $1,250 a night with a corporate discount. Secondly, it was 2000 not 2001. And most importantly, she was dressed as Wonder Woman,” he said.

“And THAT attention to detail is what has won the respect of all the Academy voters for these fine men and women,” Robert added with his trademark smile.

Gawker says these two had more chemistry going on in the few minutes they were on stage than hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway shared the entire night – and even goes as far as to say Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. should host next year.
