At the Oscars 2011, James Franco had a very busy night: he hosted the awards ceremony, had to get ready for the next time he’d show up on stage and even made time to live tweet from the show. The result: a more interactive Academy Awards ceremony.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, this was officially the first time that a host of the Oscars live tweeted during the actual event – when Franco still found time to do it all still remains to be determined.

Though the actor, himself up for an award for Best Actor for his role in “127 Hours,” did not use his 140 characters to write, he did upload countless videos and photos, like the one you see attached to this article, with him, Anne Hathaway and Oprah Winfrey.

THR points out that, before Sunday’s ceremony, Franco did not really use his Twitter account that much, which could probably mean he set it up specifically for the ceremony.

The bottom line is that, throughout the night, he offered fans a look at the Oscars like the ABC broadcast has never and could never do.

Some videos (most of them had under or around 30 seconds) showed him getting ready in the hair and makeup room, others were of what was happening in the venue during commercial breaks and others from backstage.

“Using the hashtag #oscarsrealtime, the thespian told a story altogether different than the official Oscar telecast that ABC viewers saw, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, according to many who followed Franco’s tweets along with the show in real time,” THR writes.

“Unlike in years past, viewers felt more like insiders than ever, thanks to Franco, who many postulated on Twitter and elsewhere that the actor may have been high, judging from the frequency and subject matter of his tweets,” the same e-zine adds.
