Oscars 2010: Mariah Carey Keeps It Short and Sweet

Mariah Carey started the awards season on the wrong foot, with a couple of red carpet appearances that got her more flack than praises for her choice for a gown. Last night at the 2010 Academy Awards, the singer redeemed herself in the eyes of fashion critics with a navy Valentino gown that made the most of her strong suits without coming across as too much, like it happened at least twice these past few months.

Aside from the gown, which Mariah accessorized with a bracelet from the H. Stern Top Floral collection, made of 18K white gold and diamonds worth $720,000, Mariah walked the red carpet with the one accessory that best suit her: her husband Nick Cannon, as MTV points out. While on the red carpet, the star also dropped some serious hints about looking forward to expanding her family – or so the media would like to believe.

“But, as any red-carpet-watcher would expect, Carey was nothing short of stunning when MTV News caught up with her and husband Nick Cannon at the Academy Awards, where the two joked about getting dressed for the big night. ‘Of course, she tells me what she’s going to wear, and I go pull something out of the laundry hamper and iron it and put it on,’ Cannon joked. ‘But she’s fabulous.’ ‘He doesn’t hardly iron a thing,’ Carey laughed. ‘Yeah, I don’t know how to iron,’ Cannon admitted. ‘I’m surprised this isn’t wrinkled now’.” MTV writes after speaking to the dashing couple on the red carpet.

Speaking of the dress she had on, Mariah revealed she worked directly with Valentino to come up with the model that would best suit her, instead of trying on several items. “We worked with them and did a lot of different sketches and stuff. We just thought it would be a nice moment, a leg moment for a different thing,” Carey said. She then joked with her husband, who said he would like to start a trend for men to expose their legs like his wife was doing for the awards ceremony.

As also noted above, Mariah also hinted she might be expecting a child, saying she had set her sight on three new movies to further her acting career – but also something else, something she could not speak of yet. “There’s also something special on the way. I can’t say anymore,” the singer, still gathering praise for her part as a social worker in the critically acclaimed “Precious,” reportedly said.
