The legal defense team in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial have hired US forensic experts to help in debunking testimony for the prosecution.

Pistorius faces 25 years in prison over the murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day. He shot her multiple times through a closed bathroom door and claimed that he mistook her for a robber.

According to News 24, he has also been charged with breaking the Firearms Control Act. He will stand trial in the North Gauteng High Court.

The prosecution has 107 witnesses lined up for the two-week trial. It will start on March 3 and be over by March 20.

The athlete is facing a verdict by a judge, since South Africa has scrapped Grand Jury trials. His spokesperson Anneliese Burgess confirmed that they flew in legal experts on Monday.
