Someone over at The Onion, one of the most popular satire websites of the moment, really put their foot in their mouth a few hours ago, during the Oscars 2013 awards show, as Gossip Cop can confirm.

Meaning it as a joke, the person in charge of the site’s Twitter feed called young actress Quvenzhané Wallis the C-word.

The tweet was deleted shortly afterwards but not before it was retweeted a few hundred times. The aforementioned e-zine has a screenshot of it.

“Everyone else seems afraid to say it, but that Quvenzhané Wallis is kind of a [expletive], right?,” The Onion wrote.

Perhaps the joke wouldn’t have been as offensive if Quvenzhané weren’t a 9-year-old girl, a very talented actress who just got her first Oscar nomination and, in doing so, became the youngest actress ever to do it.

What do you think? Did The Onion cross the line or are all those taking offense with the joke simply overreacting? My money is on the former.
