Oscar's Hottest Babes

As it happens with every major event, we have on one side the losers and, on the other, the winners. This time, we're not talking about who got to leave home holding an Oscar, but about the ladies who made a splash on the red carpet. They are as follows: Jennifer Lopez (why am I not surprised?), Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman (again, I am not surprised) and Cate Blanchett.

Of course, you are not to understand by this that the rest of the female celebrities present were dressed poorly but simply that these ladies literally succeeded in stealing all the thunder on the red carpet, both by their outfits and their way of presenting them (or, as I would say in a totally different context, of working those outfits).

First up we have Jennifer Lopez who, if only she didn't have Marc Anthony by her side to ruin her almost every pose (no offense, I like the guy's music but this is not about talent or ability to do something good; this post is all about looks - and that, Marc doesn't have), she could have been easily crowned the most stunning appearance of the night. Dressed in a beaded gown that resembled to the highest extent to what we see in HBO's 'Rome', JLo came off as stylish, classy and gorgeous. Then again, when doesn't she come across as that?

It's a good thing that she didn't let a little booing (it happened in Berlin, when the public shooed her off the stage after a screening of her latest movie 'Bordertown') discourage her from pursuing a career in film - this is the only way I can think of for her attending the Oscars. Either way, she may be a lousy actress or not, but there is one thing people cannot bitch about when it comes to 'Jenny from the block': she knows how to dress and this recent appearance stands as proof for it. Work it, girl! Work! It!

And here comes Gwyneth Paltrow, in this Zac Posen gown. Now, in case you didn't know, people are not that fond of Gwyneth, especially after she told a Spanish newspaper that Americans are stupid and the British are not, which is why she chose to move to England. Even those who harbor the most negative feelings towards the actress have stepped forward and admitted that her outfit for the big night of the Oscars was breathtaking. Her hair, not so much. But the dress was exactly what one would expect from her to wear: simple, elegant and in style.

At number three (this is not a countdown, it's just a way of keeping tabs) we have the lady in red for the evening, Nicole Kidman. Dressed in her favorite designer's creation (a Balenciaga gown), Nicole was probably the most sparkling presence of the night. All the time that she spent on the red carpet, she smiled and looked gracious as ever, talked to the media and waved her hand to her fans. Only one thing has been pointed out in what concerns her: maybe she is beginning to grow too fond of Botox and other products of this kind because she looks as if she has no facial mobility whatsoever.

Although this has never been confirmed, there are many who claim that the Australian beauty uses Botox injections to keep her complexion youthful. But the bad part is that, like other celebrities, she too can't seem to stop from using it and this could be explained by the fact that her facial muscles don't seem to move at all when she smiles (Botox has temporary paralysis of the muscles as a short-term effect). Be that as it may, she still was the queen of the ball...

And last but not least we have a British actress who, in recent months, managed to impose herself on the scene as a true fashion icon. The 'Babel' female lead, Cate Blanchett, dressed in a metallic and heavily embroidered Armani dress, was among the most glamorous presences on the red carpet. And she did all that WHILE not even trying to be glamorous. The thing that made Cate's name be associated with style and good sense of fashion is that, every time she steps out in public (although dressed in the creations of the most prestigious designers), she makes it look as if she doesn't want the attention that is given to her. It's like she's trying really hard to stay in the shadow but she can't because of her exquisiteness... I'm telling you, this is what good fashion is all about!

Like it or not, these were my four choices for the hottest babes of the Oscars. Of course, your opinion might be contrastingly different from mine but that doesn't mean that we can't spare a sec to admire the hotness of these four women. The pics are below. You be the judges.
