The fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film was a hit but it bombed heavily with critics, which, in turn, made Disney understand that there was no future for the franchise in the direction they were going. So they took their sweet time with the fifth, which starts shooting early next year and won’t be out until 2017.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will be out in July 2017 and already has Johnny Depp on board, reprising his famous role as Captain Jack Sparrow. Keira Knightley, who appeared in the first 3 films and left with Orlando Bloom, has long said that she is done with the character.
Bloom said the same until some time ago, when he started to drop more or less subtle hints that he might be coming back, or that he was interested to, at the very least.
It seems that he wasn’t just teasing fans: speaking with IGN, he confirms that he’s currently in talks with studio bosses to see if they can make his return happen. He insists that nothing has been set in stone just yet, and goes on to spill the beans on Disney’s plans for the franchise.
If you thought with the fourth movie that some kind of reboot was needed, you weren’t the only one.
“Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son… I’m of course Davey Jones now, so I’m down the bottom of the ocean. It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me. [Gestures to face] Get all gnarly,” Bloom says.
Technically, if he’s coming back and so is Depp (and so is Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, as per online reports), “Dead Men Tell No Tales” isn’t a reboot, but a new installment that will aim to make fans forget the fourth one ever happened.
Are you happy to hear that Orlando Bloom is coming back to “Pirates”?
