Snake, one of the most popular mobile games of all time, died along with the company that brought them to the world, Nokia. Well, not really, since Nokia still exists, but its mobile division has been bought by Microsoft.

Anyway, Snake made its last appearance in a mobile device in the entry-level Nokia 108 feature phone, which was launched back in 2013. No other handsets were “empowered” with the addiction of the Snake game since then.

But that is about to change, Taneli Armanto, the creator of the original Nokia Snake, is about to launch a new, a modern retake of the classic game. This time, however, the game won't be released on feature phones or certain branded handsets.

Mr. Armanto has partnered with Rumilus Design to create a brand-new game called Snake Rewind, which will be available on all major mobile platforms, including Android, iOS and Windows Phone.

According to developers, their new game “takes the iconic elements and intuitive gameplay from the original Snake game and combines them with cool visual effects, sounds and innovative new features.

“The game can be immediately picked up by everyone, while offering enjoyment for a long time with many fun and challenging goals and discoveries.”

For those too young to have injured their fingers while trying to beat one more level in Snake, here are some of the features that the new game has to offer.

The game comes with some sort of "easy mode"

First of all, players will be able to rewind the snake after crashing to continue the game, which is saying that Snake has just got itself an easy mode.

Also, there will be lots of new special fruit types, such as Fruit Magnet, Trailblazer and Score Multiplier. There will also be a fruit store where boosters and other items can be purchased and upgraded, using fruit that are collected during the game.

The game will feature 10 levels, each with its own visuals and music, unlocked by completing fun and challenging missions. Players will also be able to compete against their friends since the game will come with high score lists.

Snake Rewind has been confirmed to arrive May 14 on Android, iOS and Windows Phone. You will be pleased to know that the game is free to download, but it contains in-app purchases.
