The phones would not provide an optimal experience

HTC confirmed several months ago that it would provide all One series smartphones launched in the last 2 years with Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

The original HTC One (M7) has already received the update, as well as One (M8). Considering the fact that both smartphones were launched in the last 2 years, as HTC stated, it made sense for these devices to be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

Unfortunately, not all HTC One smartphones will get the update, as promised by HTC. It looks like at least two devices have been stiffed from getting the Lollipop upgrade.

One day ago HTC confirmed that One mini 2 wouldn't receive any more major updates beyond Android 4.4 KitKat. This means that Android 5.0 Lollipop is out of the question for HTC One mini 2.

According to HTC, the company's engineers have determined that Lollipop on the One mini 2 will not provide an optimal experience for users. This is the reason HTC has decided to remove the One mini 2 from the list of devices eligible for Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrades.

Both smartphones have been released in the last 2 years

Today, the Taiwanese handset maker announced that another One series smartphone wouldn't be getting the long-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

Even though it's not a surprise after the One mini 2 announcement, HTC confirmed that the original One mini smartphone is not going to receive the Lollipop update.

No reasons have been given, but we can safely assume that HTC has found Android 5.0 Lollipop experience on both One mini and One mini 2 unsatisfactory.

Since both One mini and One mini 2 have been released in the 2-year window mentioned by HTC, the news must be very disappointing for owners of these two smartphones.

Hopefully, HTC will found ways to offer the Lollipop update to One mini and One mini 2 after all, even if that will happen later rather than sooner.
