Although Samsung has yet to announce it official, its first Android tablet, the 7-inch Galaxy Tab, is now receiving the long-anticipated Gingerbread update in the UK.

It is a common fact that soon after the release of the Honeycomb, Galaxy Tab owners started to complain about the tablet's functionality, especially because of the operating system that was not optimized to work on such large screens.

While this wasn't Samsung's fault, it appears that Google released its tablet-optimized mobile platform several months later and the original Galaxy Tab was still not compatible with the said operating system

However, the search giant recently announced an updated version of Honeycomb, which is fully compatible with all 7-inch tablets.

Following the official release of the new iteration of Honeycomb, we can assume that all 7-inch tablets will receive the update, including the original Samsung Galaxy Tab and the HTC Flyer, both being launched with different versions of Android.

It is also worth mentioning that the current Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread updates is an important and necessary upgrade before original Galaxy Tab owners could bring their tablets' firmware to the latest version of Honeycomb.

Unfortunately, it is unclear if Samsung and Google plan to deploy another software update for the 7-inch Galaxy Tab in the near future, but the Korean handset manufacturer will probably offer the Honeycomb update to all original Galaxy Tab users by the end of the year.

The unannounced Android 2.3.3 update for the original Galaxy Tab is not pushed OTA (over the air), instead owners are required to download and install the latest version of Samsung Kies desktop software.

Unfortunately, the lack of an official statement and change log for the current update leaves us with little to comment, but as soon as Samsung makes any announcements, we will update the story.
