It has two 128 GB SSDs arranged in RAID mode, plus an HDD of 1 TB

Gaming laptops aren't that hard to make these days, since all the specially-tailored parts for them are as easy to find as for desktops. What does carry with it some difficulty is making the high-end powerhouses thin and light as well. Origin PC managed it for the EVO15-S.

The new notebook from Origin PC could rightly be called a high-end gaming ultrabook, but the company didn't bother trying to expand or skew the meaning of that particular word.

Instead, it just dubbed its latest EVO mobile PC as a thin and light gaming laptop and went on its way, so to speak. However, we have to say that the hardware is definitely above the norm by several levels.

And it's not the display that drew our attention, even though the 15.6-inch WQHD+ IPS screen (resolution of 2880 x 1620 pixels) is a lot better than on many of the EVO15-S's peers, which stick to Full HD for the most part (1920 x 1080 pixels).

No, what stood out is the storage. Despite how thin the product is, Origin PC still found room for not only an HDD of 1 TB capacity (7,200 RPM platter speed), but also for two (not one, but two) solid state drives as well.

The SSDs, each with a capacity of 128 GB, are arranged in RAID 0 and will make for a very spacious primary partition, holding the OS and the frequently used programs. You can be sure that the notebook will boot in seconds and launch games in less time (though only assuming they are installed on the SSDs instead of the HDD, as is often the case).

Computing-wise, the system relies on a powerful quad-core Intel Core i7-4710HQ CPU, while 16 GB of DDR3L memory backs it up (two 8 GB modules at 1600 MHz).

Furthermore, the graphics side of things is well represented by the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M discrete GPU, with 3 GB of GDDR5 VRAM.

Other assets include Matrix Multi-Monitor Display Support (adds up to two external displays for extra perspective in games or multitasking/multi-window work), Killer E2200 Game Networking technology (which prioritizes game access to the net bandwidth), Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Wi-Fi, a 720p webcam, Audio Boost technology, and multi-color backlighting for the keyboard.

Finally, the Origin PC EVO15-S gaming ultrathin notebook boasts three USB 3.0 ports, integrated speakers and subwoofer, and custom paint with laser etching. All this in a package with a thickness of 0.79 inches / 20 mm and a weight of 4.36 pounds / 1.96 kilos.
