After CyberPower and iBuyPower have both announced the launch of a series of desktop gaming systems based on AMD's FX-Series processors is now Origin PC's turn to do the same with its high-end Genesis rig.

Unlike the two other boutique builders who have chosen to introduce a series of new desktops powered by AMD's Bulldozer CPUs, Origin took a different turn and added the chips as an option to the already available Genesis.

As a result, the company's clients now have the option of building their gaming desktop on an AMD Scorpio platform that is comprised of an AM3+ motherboard, with the 990FX or 990X chipset, and a six- or eight-core AMD FX processor.

The base configuration includes an Asus M5A99X board paired together with the 3.3GHz AMD FX-6100 CPU and seconded by 4GB of Corsair XMS3 system memory, a Radeon HD 5670 graphics card, and a 320GB hard drive, all of these being powered by a 500W PSU.

Users have the option of customizing this setup any way they like, with dual- or triple-GPU graphics and up to four drives in RAID, and Origin also offers its customers the option of choosing to go with a factory overclocked Bulldozer CPU.

Pricing for the base version of the FX-powered Genesis is set at $1320.00, which translates into roughly 988 Euros.

Like all other of Origin's systems, the Genesis can also be designed with a custom paint job, but this option will add another $613 (459 Euros) to its base price.

AMD's first FX-Series processors were launched by the Sunnyvale chip maker just the other day, but failed to live up to all the hype build around them as performance varies greatly depending on the application run, in most test scenarios the FX-8150 lagging behind Intel's Core i5-2500K.
