While Maingear is starting to take orders for systems running AMD's A-Series desktop APUs, Origin is doing something that even more people may find interesting.

Long story short, the company has begun to accept orders for systems running Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system.

That includes both the standard version of the software and the Windows 8 Pro OS.

Any new Origin desktop is eligible, as are the EON series laptops.

Alas, there is a catch here: shipments won't start any earlier than those of every other planned Windows 8 device out there.

Microsoft will only launch the OS on October 26, which means that Origin PC has to wait until then as well. This move is only meant to enable prospective buyers to place their order in advance and avoid backlogs later.
