The team at publisher Electronic Arts working on the Origin digital distribution service announces that, at the moment, users are having trouble logging into the service and that the problem is under investigation and a fix will be delivered as soon as possible in order to restore full functionality of the program, which is running on the PC.

The information comes from the official Twitter account of the company and explains that, when more details are available, the studio plans to share them with the public. They also promise that they will offer users a clear timeline when they know when the problem might be eliminated.

Before the Origin team talked about the login problem, users were also notified about the issue by the official accounts of games recently launched on the service, including FIFA 15.

Electronic Arts has a big problem if it cannot quickly eliminate the issue and we might soon see players accusing the company that it is not doing its job when it comes to making sure that clients can access the content they have bought anytime they want to.

Origin feels like an afterthought

When Origin was first launched, Electronic Arts said that it had plans to directly challenge the domination of the digital distribution market on the PC that Steam from Valve had been enjoying for some time.

Unfortunately, the company has failed to deliver interesting new functionality or a wide range of games, and at the moment, the service might be required for a number of titles but it is not loved by fans.

A big outage might force the company to either eliminate the presence of Origin in the long term or to significantly change the core features.

EA Access is a potential replacement

This summer, Electronic Arts announced that it was introducing a new service called EA Access, which is at the moment only offered on the Xbox One platform from Microsoft.

It is designed to give players who subscribe access to a Vault which will contain more than 100 titles, while at the same time will give them a clear discount for upcoming big releases and the chance to test games for six hours before they are launched.

EA Access is an interesting concept which will not be launched on the PlayStation 4 from Sony because the platform holder does not believe that it offers value.

But the service would be a great fit for the PC and would allow Electronic Arts to significantly enhance the functionality offered by Origin.
