Hidden cameras take pictures of almost extinct fox subspecies

A conservation group known as the Center for Biological Diversity is presently pressing the federal government to list the red fox under the Endangered Species Act.

The main drive behind their demand is that, apparently, there are only 50 such foxes left in the wild. As one can easily guess, this makes them some of the rarest mammals in North America.

Recently, three of them were caught on tape for the first time in years. These pictures are to be used to raise awareness with respect to the need to safeguard Oregon's mountains and the animal species native to this region.

Presently, red foxes are threatened both by the destruction of their natural habitat, and by the risk of cross-breeding with other subspecies brought here by people.
