The dashcam on an Oregon State Police squad car has captured the moment before an ex-soldier was fatally shot in a confrontation with law enforcement.

According to the Huffington Post, the altercation took place on Interstate 84 near Biggs Junction, on August 29.

Officials have released the footage on Thursday, and 34-year-old John Van Allen II can be seen pulling a gun on the officer in the vehicle.

Oregon State Trooper Matthew Zistel pulled Van Allen over during a routine traffic stop, but the former army man refused to stay in the vehicle.

Zistel was about to give him a speeding ticket when Van Allen got out of the car. He was told to get back inside but did not comply.

Van Allen pulled a handgun and shot the officer in the side, during military style maneuvers. Zistel fired back and fatally shot the suspect in the chest.
