Users of a jailbroken iPhone / iPod touch can now stream live content to their device

iPhone / iPod touch owners definitely get to have it their way today, with another application aimed at users of Apple portables being released for download. OrbLive "plays live TV, Internet TV, and webcams on your iPhone or iPod Touch" using the Orb streaming application that you have to install on your computer. Two steps involving the installation of one app per machine is all it takes to start enjoying streamed content right on your Apple device.

Orb claims it has optimized media streaming to work on WiFi, AT&T, O2, and Vodafone. Here's how it works, according to these guys:

On a Windows PC (sucks to be a Mac user today, huh?) or, of course, on a Mac running Parallels or Fusion, you install the Orb streaming application (version 2.01.0013 or later). The guys at Orb claim that localized versions are on their way.

The next thing you need to do is to create a login user name and password, but remember that, first and foremost, you will need a TV turner card or webcam attached to your PC to be able to watch live TV.

Next, you'll be moving your attention towards the iPhone / iPod touch you own. The device needs to be jailbroken, something that Softpedia doesn't condone, of course, which means you're doing this at your own risk.

On the respective jailbroken iPhone / iPod touch, click on the Installer icon in your app menu; click the Install icon at the bottom; scroll through the list of categories and click on Multimedia; click on OrbLive; click Install at top right; click Install in the popup that appears; when the package has installed, go to your iPhone app menu and click the OrbLive icon.

Finally, just enter the login and password you've created on your PC when you installed Orb on it, and that's it!

Naturally, you will have to leave your PC on so it can stream content to your device. An unlimited Internet plan is definitely in order here.

Orb is also compatible with major gaming consoles such as the Wii, PS3 and Xbox.
