Mobile operator Orange has introduced the SPV M5000, a device based on the HTC Universal platform, which is the first 3G UMTS Windows Mobile to combine so many wireless technologies like Bluetooth, Wireless LAN, GSM/GPRS/UMTS (tri-band, WCDMA).
The M5000 has a special touchscreen that
can be opened to the side much like a sub note, it features a full QWERTY keyboard, and when the screen is closed, the device looks like a standard Pocket PC.
With this model, Orange will provide users with the first Windows Mobile handset to support live video calls over 3G networks. It offers support for the Windows Mobile 5 operating system and all its new security features.
The greatest feature this handset has to offer is the VGA display (640x480 pixels), which combined with the built-in Wi-Fi and 3G and 2 cameras put together a great phone and the competition has a lot of work ahead to catch up to this big baby.
However, considering the generous size of this device, this definitely will not be a "hold to your ear" phone.
Users will have to get a Bluetooth or wired headset if they don't want to look really silly while talking on the SPV
M5000.
