Sony had a consistent presence at this year's Gamescom event, including a large Sony Ericsson booth entirely dedicate to mobile gaming.

Gamescom 2011 is about to close its gates in Cologne, Germany after four days of press conferences, demos, previews and launch events.

Dubbed as a gaming device before being a mobile phone, Xperia PLAY offers users a whole new experience of gaming thanks to its PSP-like gaming controls.

Even though the handset was delayed a few times due to several software issues, the smartphone is now available for purchase in most regions around the world.

The phone was initially launched in two color schemes, Black and White, but recently an orange-flavored Xperia PLAY was spotted in the wild.

The guys over at XperiaGames have just tweeted a picture of an orange Xperia PLAY unit, which is reportedly making the rounds at Sony Ericsson's booth at Gamescom 2011.

Obviously, the phone's hardware configuration is the same as the original model, so it's only a matter of taste after all.

As a reminder, the Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play has a large 4.0-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 480 x 854 pixels resolution.

The device allows users to play PlayStation Suite games and is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus and image stabilization.

Equipped with a single core 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor (with Adreno 205 GPU), the Xperia Play packs a medium amount of 400 MB internal memory.

On related news, a white Xperia arc has also been spotted by the guys over at CNMO. It appears that this is the same white-flavored Xperia arc that emerged back in April.

It will be interesting to see if Sony Ericsson will launch the orange Xperia PLAY and the white Xperia arc by the end of the year.
