Wireless carrier Orange UK has just announced officially the launch of a new device on its airwaves, the Android-based Galaxy Tab from Samsung. According to Orange, the new slate is immediately available for purchase at retail shops and Orange telesales, while being accompanied by one and 12 month price plans from the operator.

The slate runs under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system and sports a 7-inch touchscreen display, beneath which the phone maker packed a 1GHz application processor.

According to Samsung, the new device was meant to offer a great experience when it comes to watching films, viewing pictures, e-reading or sharing documents.

Moreover, the slate weighs in at only 380g, offering increased portability, which complements its performance levels and its capabilities.

Not to mention that the slate arrives on shelves at Orange with a customizable Orange home screen through which users receive fast access to to various Orange apps, including:

- Orange Wednesdays, the 2-4-1 cinema ticket app - allowing you to read reviews, watch trailers as well as redeem 2-4-1 vouchers all from the device - Orange Maps – offering turn by turn GPS navigation - And the option to download Your Orange, so users can manage their Orange account, and keep up-to-date with their mobile data usage

At launch, the new Galaxy Tab was made available on a series of flexible price plans at the wireless carrier, including some tailored for those customers who use mobile data occasionally with Racoon, or for those who use it more regularly with Dolphin.

“On select Dolphin price plans, customers will receive an additional 1GB “quiet time” data allowance (from midnight until 4pm), and have the option of unlimited data through BT OpenZone public WiFi,” the wireless carrier announced.

“Furthermore, existing Orange pay monthly, pay as you go and home broadband customers will receive a £5 reward discount on their monthly line rental,” orange stated.

On Orange Racoon, the Galaxy Tab is priced at £529 for one month plans, and at £499 for 12 months options.

With Orange Dolphin, users can get the new device for £515 on a £10 per month plan for one month, or at £499 on a 12 months plan of £10 or £15 per month.
