Orange UK has just added a new feature-phone to its lineup, the Rio II, which seems to be the sequel to the original Rio that was launched last year.

With a BlackBerry-esque form factor, the Rio II is a hybrid phone that offers both worlds, a traditional QWERTY keyboard and a 2.4-inch resistive touchscreen.

The HDSPA-enabled handset sports an average 3-megapixel photo snapper, a built-in MP3 player with FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 8GB, 2GB memory card included).

Software-wise, the Rio II comes bundled with a wide range of Orange applications, including Maps, Messenger, Orange Widgets, as well as built-in web browser, social networking integration and an integrated email client.

By the look of it, Orange UK recommends the phone to its younger customers: “The party is back in town with the Rio II from Orange in white. Bigger and better, you can capture the moment with the 3-megapixel camera or keep the party going with the FM radio and MP3 player. Video messaging and email using the QWERTY keyboard help you to keep in contact with everyone, whilst the 3G+ data speed ensures quick internet access.”

Unfortunately, although the carrier stated that the phone's battery should provide up to 4 hours of talk time or up to 6 days of standby time, users report that the battery life drains too fast after only a few calls.

Furthermore, the handset offers little to no customization options, while the carrier's widgets and apps seem to disappoint. The Rio II is now available for purchase on PAYG (pay as you go) via Orange UK for just £69.99.

In addition, the handset can be obtained for free on pay monthly tariffs from £20.00 per month, including 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 250MB data. Orange Rio II is available in two color schemes, black and white.
