Orange County Choppers Builds Bike for Intel

- Intel will probably overclock the motorcycle to get extra horsepower

By: Dan Frincu, Hardware Editor

Mikey, Paul Junior and Paul Senior, or best known as the Teutuls family from American Chopper have another task at hand, and this time it's a big one as they have to satisfy the desires of Chipzilla, or the way it's known among close friends, as the Intel
Corporation, by building them a theme bike.

Intel is celebrating 30 years in the embedded computing domain with the launch of two products, the Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5300 series processor- the first Intel architecture-based quad-core processor for the embedded segment and the second one is Intel's IP Network Server NSC2U; both the products utilize Intel's latest hardware technologies, including Virtualization Technology, also known as the Vanderpool technology, and Intel I/O Acceleration Technology.

The launch was also celebrated by Intel with the help of Orange County Choppers which built an Intel-theme custom motorcycle. In their aid came Black Diamond Advanced Technology which integrated the motorcycle's computerized controls and other features that protect the sensitive equipment against moisture, dirt, shock and vibration. They also made a detachable dashboard which could be used as a mobile PC.

Doug Davis, vice president and general manager of Intel's Embedded and Communications Group stated that: "The breakthrough performance and power efficiency that characterize the industry's first quad-core processors for embedded are as unmistakable as the raw power of the four cylinders of the Intel Chopper's quad engine. This 250-horsepower chopper – designed using quad-core Intel computers – is more than just a mechanical powerhouse; it's also a marvel of embedded technology with an ultra-mobile PC powering fingerprint recognition for security and a digital dashboard with ignition control, digital gauges, cameras that replace rear-view mirrors, integrated audio and video systems, GPS navigation and wireless connectivity."

Intel's Quad-Core Xeon processor series will include the Intel Xeon E5335 (2.0 GHz) and the Intel Xeon E5345 (2.33 GHz) processors which have a price tag starting from $690. These can be used in rack-mount and blade servers, SAN and NAS Systems and medical imaging equipment. The Intel IP Network Server NSC2U uses two 5300 series processors, and is suited for applications ranging from security intrusion prevention to telecommunications services-over-IP (SoIP) such as IMS, IPTV and Video on Demand (VoD). This product will be available starting from July of this year.

Paul Teutul Sr. from Orange County Choppers also made a statement at the unveiling of the product in which he said that: "As Intel celebrates 30 years of innovation, we’ve created the most powerful and technologically advanced bike we've ever made to showcase the many ways the world benefits from Intel embedded technology. In fact, we were amazed to discover how much Intel technology we have in our own shop. Beyond the Intel- powered PCs and servers, we have Intel processors embedded in many of the machines and devices that help us with every build."
