Oracle has announced the release of the new Oracle VM VirtualBox 3.2.0. The virtualization software gets a new name thanks to Oracle’s Sun acquisition having completed recently, but a lot of new features as well. VirtualBox 3.2.0 comes with support for the latest Intel hardware and with a completely re-written storage I/O subsystem.

The VirtualBox team today released a significant new version of Oracle VM VirtualBox(TM), its high performance, cross-platform virtualization software. VirtualBox 3.2, the first Oracle branded release since the acquisition of Sun Microsystems, Inc by Oracle Corp. earlier this year, contains many innovative new features which deliver further significant improvements in performance, power and supported guest operating system platforms,” the official release announcement read.

Highlights of VirtualBox 3.2.0:

- the software has been renamed Oracle VM VirtualBox and all branded components have been updated, where possible; - support for the Unrestricted Guest Execution feature in Intel Core i5, Core i7 and Xeon 5600 Series processors; - dynamic memory ‘ballooning,’ enabling 64-bit hosts to adjust the amount of memory dedicated to a VM on the fly; - Large Page support for increased performance; - Page Fusion, a new feature that de-duplicates RAM used by similar VMs; - vCPU hot-plugging for Linux and some Windows guests; - snapshots can now be deleted while the VM is running; - USB tablet/keyboard emulation; - a virtual SAS controller, emulating the LsiLogic SAS controller; - RDP video acceleration; - Guest Automation API; - multi-monitor support in Windows guests; - limited, experimental support for Mac OS X guests; - support for desktop and server versions of Ubuntu “Lucid Lynx” 10.04 LTS; - support for Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5.

There are several other new features in the new VirtualBox 3.2.0 and plenty of bug fixes. A bug that prevented users from installing the Guest Additions in Fedora 13 was fixed. Several issues with 3D support were also resolved.
