Oracle has announced last evening, March 2nd, the immediate availability for download of the Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.8 operating system.

Being based on the recently released Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8, Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.8 ships with three kernels: an unbreakable enterprise Linux 2.6.32 kernel, a Red Hat compatible Linux 2.6.18 kernel, and Oracle's own patched Linux 2.6.18 kernel, also compatible with Red Hat.

Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.8 is 100% compatible with the upstream release from Red Hat. This release brings numerous bugfixes and updated drivers for storage and network.

Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.8 is distributed as installable DVD server ISO images for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.
