Oracle has had the great pleasure of announcing today, June 2, the immediate availability for download and testing of the VirtualBox 5.0 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) virtualization software for Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows platforms.

Oracle VirtualBox 5.0 Release Candidate 1 brings major improvements and addresses a large number of bugs that have been discovered by the VirtualBox developers or reported by users since the last Beta release of the software.

"Oracle is proud to announce the availability of VirtualBox 5.0 Release Candidate 1," says Oracle in today's announcement. "This release is a major improvement which include a large number of enhancement and bug fixes."

Highlights of this release include better support for HiDPI (High Dots Per Inch) displays on Windows hosts, adjustments to icons and size-hint, NLS (National Language Support) fixes, and support for fast scaling mechanism for integer scale-factors.

Additionally, the first Release Candidate version of the upcoming VirtualBox 5.0 virtualization software fixes support for re-attaching a separate virtual machine to a headless VM, addresses an OpenStep issue for PCNet, and adds a resize command to vbox-img.

Among other changes, we can mention that the drag and drop functionality has been improved, especially when reporting host errors, the active network connections will no longer be dropped or reset when link is offline, and an AHCI hang that occurred during shutdown of a virtual machine has been patched.

Last but not least, an issue with RandR 1.1 on X.Org Servers for X11 Additions has been fixed, the support driver will no longer be kept permanently open by VBoxSVC, a possible workaround has been added for a networking issue, and some audio output problems have been resolved.
