Before the ongoing quarter is over, Australian wireless carrier Optus is expected to make available for purchase on its airwaves a new Android-based tablet PC, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 from Samsung. According to some of the latest reports on the matter, the operator would aim at having the new device available for purchase sometime in September.

However, it seems that the wireless carrier might be ready to go sometime in the middle of August, meaning that their warehouses will be stockpiling the tablet at that time.

The Android-based tablet PC was set to make an appearance in Australia on the airwaves of Vodafone too, and it remains to be seen which carrier will have it for sale first.

Apparently, Optus might be set to make the tablet PC available for purchase in a bundle with the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone, on its $99 plan with 6GB of shared data.

This offering would be similar with the one Optus had in place for the original Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S devices, which came in the same package on its $89 plan.

At the same time, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is expected to become available for purchase on Optus Prepaid with a price tag of around $700-$750 attached to it.

Recently, Vodafone announced plans to bring the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet PC to its airwaves in Australia, but they did not offer specific info on pricing or availability date.

When made available, the device will sport a 10.1-inch touchscreen display, complemented by a 1GHz dual-core application processor, and 16 GB of internal memory.

Moreover, the tablet PC comes with a 3-megapixel camera on the back, complemented by a 2MP camera on the front, both with HD video capabilities.

WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 capabilities were included into the mix too, along with 2.0 USB, GPS receiver, WiFi Hotspot, and access to the Android Market.
