Australian wireless carrier Optus is expected to soon make available for purchase on its airwaves a new device running under Google's Android operating system, namely the Optus ‘My Tab’ tablet PC, which is one and the same device as the ZTE Light slate.

The new Android device is expected to sport a pretty affordable price tag at Optus, even when purchase with prepaid options, case in which it would cost $279.

The specifications list of this device includes a 7-inch resistive touch screen display that boasts a 800 x 400 pixel resolution, complemented by a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

The Android-based slate should include support for Wi-Fi b/g connectivity options when made available, and should be bundled with 3GB of data on purchase.

Moreover, the Optus ‘My Tab’ tablet PC should arrive on shelves with Google's Android 2.1 operating system on board, though it appears that its maker already promised that the Android 2.2 OS will be delivered to the slate in the near future.

WCDMA 3G connectivity, GPS, FM Radio, Bluetooth capabilities, and 512MB of RAM and 512MB ROM are also said to have been included into the mix.

At the same time, the rumored specs list for this device include a 3400mAh battery that should offer up to 10 hours of usage time, as well as a front-facing VGA webcam for video calling.

The Optus My Tab comes with a microSD memory card slot too, with a 2GB card included into the mix and with support for more additional storage space.

According to a recent article on ausdroid.net, a CGI version of the Optus My Tab has been already released into the wild.

The upcoming Android-based device is being brought to the Australian market as the carrier's response to Telstra's T-Touch Tab tablet PC, a re-branded Huawei S7, which was put on sale about a month ago.
