Ubisoft apologizes for the "buy a bigger GPU" comments

Ubisoft has offered a new statement concerning the PC versions of its games, confirming that the optimization process is a highly important one and revealing that the "buy a bigger GPU" comments from earlier this week were misinterpreted.

Ubisoft has just launched Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag on the PC platform and quite a few computer owners were unhappy with the game's performance even on powerful machines.

What's more, a special statement from Associate Producer Sylvain Trottier seemed to dismiss the optimization process for the PC version of the game, as those looking for performance should just get a better graphics card.

Now, Ubisoft has revealed a special post on its UbiBlog, confirming that those sentences were taken out of context, as Trottier only referred to the Research & Development process, in which engineers and programmers try to implement the best techniques, without worrying about performance issues.

"You want to push the particle and lighting effects to the max to see how it looks," Trottier mentioned in the post. "Thing is, while you’re doing that, the performance doesn’t matter. We were doing R&D. But we weren’t doing R&D for performance. We’re doing R&D to try to see how far we can push the limits, to make our game look very amazing."

After new techniques and procedures are developed, the optimization actually beings and Trottier confirmed that the first process takes place on the PC, as engineers have a lot of experience with it.

"It’s absolutely not true that we don’t care about PC optimization," Trottier added. "If we didn’t care about PC optimization, then we would not have such a big team in Kiev. We have a team dedicated just to the PC version in Kiev."

"We are very proud of the PC version of Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. The game runs well on low-end PCs, and lots of additional features were added for higher-end machines, allowing each and every customer to fully enjoy the experience on their PCs."

Black Flag is now available for PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One.
