Apparently, the market for compact disks is not the place to be

Optical disk drives are still a normal part of PCs, more or less, but actual compact disks have been selling poorly compared to several years ago, and this has led to rather unfortunate events on the optical disk market.

Long story short, because of flash drives, portable HDDs, and portable SSDs, optical disks aren't that popular anymore.

They are still essential for driver and software sales, but online downloads and, more recently, bootable/software flash drives are taking their place.

Because of this, many makers of optical disks are going out of business, and the market segment is reshuffling.

Only Blu-ray disks are in good demand, because of Ultra HD video and data backup needs.

The ranks of disk makers will thin and rearrange over the next half a year, reports say, via Digitimes.
