Oprah Winfrey may revive now defunct show to boost ratings for her OWN network, says report

On her final show, marking the end of a 25-year run of The Oprah Winfrey Show, the Queen of Television made it a point of saying that this was not “farewell” but rather “see you later.” Reports are now saying chances are high Oprah will be reviving the show on her OWN network.

In November 2009, Oprah announced that she would put an end to her decade-long daytime talk show so that she could focus on other projects, namely her recently released network, OWN.

The initial plan was, obviously, to kill off the show and move forward, but Oprah may have to reconsider that because of rather disappointing ratings for OWN, PopEater writes.

Sources close to the talk show host claim that she’s been toying with the idea of reviving the show on her network if ratings don’t improve.

For the time being, this is just a backup plan, but at least it offers some consolation to fans pining away at home for the show they’d been watching for 25 years.

“Don’t expect the Queen of Daytime to go away. Sources tell me this most definitely is not the end, but rather the beginning of Oprah,” PopEater writes.

Of course, fans already knew that, since Oprah herself said it when she launched OWN: she wasn’t going anywhere. What fans didn’t know is that there’s a chance they may be getting more of Oprah in the same format as until now.

“She is going to dedicate herself to her new network and do whatever needs to be done to make sure it’s a huge hit,” a source close to the star says for the e-zine.

“If this means bringing her own show back to life on her network then she will. I can’t imagine that she won’t be back on the air before the end of the year,” adds the spy.

PopEater also notes that, contrary to industry expectations, Oprah’s OWN network failed to get enough attention since it was launched, presumably because of the timing it came out and the fact that it wasn’t promoted enough.

If Oprah believes bringing her show over to OWN would boost ratings, then she will do just that, the report suggests – and then, it will be almost as if she never went away.
