After yesterday’s huge revelation that she has a half-sister she didn’t even know about, Oprah Winfrey, the Queen of Television, says she’s taking things in stride, giving herself all the time she needs to fully absorb this in.

Speaking with the media about how it feels to know that her family has a new member, a sister no less, Oprah underlines that she regards Patricia as a gift, People magazine reports.

Certainly, she’s extremely happy right now, but she’s also eager not to rush into anything, thus have the time to get to know Patricia better.

“We’re taking it slow. I think it’s about building a relationship one conversation – one experience – at a time. I think we have… the common interest of our mother,” the talk show host reveals.

“Everybody who’s dealing with an ailing parent understands that process of getting care for them. And we’re speaking regularly about that,” Oprah says.

Of course, her conversations with Patricia go beyond that, because Oprah is also very eager to learn about the ways in which she could help her family.

“I had her to dinner at my house the night before we taped the show. There were conversations about [Patricia’s] family and how I can be helpful,” she says.

“She coming into the family at this time has been a great peace offering, a great symbol of peace-making in this family. I would say I see her as a gift,” Oprah adds.

As we also noted the other day, on her show, Oprah spoke of how she came to find out about the long-lost sister she never knew: they have the same mother but, while Oprah was living with her father, her mother gave birth to Patricia and then gave her up for adoption.

Also then, Oprah said she first found out about this in November, when Patricia managed to track her down to tell her they were related by mother.

The story managed to get people very interested: USA Today reports the reunion episode got a 9.6 household rating and a 22 share in metered markets, which means it’s the highest rating episode since her post-Oscar party in 2005.
