The celebrity wanted to buy a bag, a retail assistant refused to serve her

Last month, Oprah Winfrey traveled to Switzerland to attend Tina Turner's wedding. While in Zurich, she paid a visit to an upmarket store and asked a retail assistant to show her a luxury purse.

Apparently, the latter refused to serve her on account that she was black.

What's more, she said that the bag cost much more than Oprah could afford. One can only assume the saleswoman was clueless about who she was talking to.

The celebrity took the high road and simply left the store.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Oprah detailed on the incident as follows:

“I go into a store and I say to the woman, ‘Excuse me, could I see the bag right above your head?’ and she says to me, ‘No. It’s too expensive...' So I left the store... There's two different ways to handle it. I could've had the whole blow-up thing... but why do that? Racism still exists, of course it does.”

“I didn’t have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear... But obviously The Oprah Winfrey Show is not shown in Zurich,” she added, as cited by Contact Music.

Oprah didn’t disclose the name of the store, but something tells me the saleswoman who refused to show her the bag is kicking herself right about now.
