Remember we talked about Oppo’s upcoming U3 handset earlier this month, when it leaked online. Back then we had the impression that the handset might turn out to be thinnest there is with a 4x optical zoom.

Well, a few weeks later, the Oppo U3 has already landed on the Chinese market. It’s a pretty big device, probably the largest Oppo has ever launched, taking advantage of 5.9-inch display.

Oppo U3 is the company's behemoth

So let’s dig right into specs. The U3 arrives with a 5.9-inch display with 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixel resolution) which takes up to 75% of the U3’s frontal panel.

Under the hood, there’s a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MT6752 chipset clocked to up to 1.7GHz fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

In the photography department, we have a 13MP back camera with Sony IMX124 sensor, while we have a 5MP shooter living up in the front.

No mention of the 4x optical zoom, so we have to assume the leaks were wrong.

Anyway, it’s important to point out that the U3 is outfitted with a dedicated audio-processing chip, the AK4961 plus Oppo’s own VOOC fast-charging technology, which will juice up your device to 75% in half an hour.

The handset is offered with a two-SIM card slot setup and LTE. It runs Oppo’s own Color OS 2.0.1 which is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The U3 supports a lot of gesture-based feats, so you can better use your smartphone with one hand only.

You can have the Oppo U3 and a rabbit tail case. Wait, what?

The Oppo U3 is currently available in China for a $451/ €389 equivalent. What’s quite bizarre is that Oppo has attached a kooky rabbit tail case for the device. It apparently aims to help users handle the device, but seriously a rabbit tail?
