Chuwi comes out with a tablet with rotating camera

Smartphones with rotating cameras aren't news anymore thanks to Chinese device-makers. We’re talking about products such as the Gionee Elife E7 Mini but most notably the Oppo N1, a smartphone which achieved notoriety due to its high-end specs and affordable price-tag.

But if you’d like to see the same technology in devices with larger displays, you’re probably going to get excited about the next announcement.

Chuwi jumps into the rotating camera bandwangon

Device maker Chuwi usually concentrates on producing Android-powered tablets and the latest newcomer to the family comes equipped with a rather interesting feature.

Like Oppo N1 the 6.89-inch Chuwi DX1 takes advantage of a rotating a camera, as noted by Giz China. The device features a rather odd frame factor, which might as well place it in the phablet category.

It comes along with a 720p display and takes advantage of a MediaTek MTK8392 octa-core processor fitted with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (which is expandable via microSD card).

Keeping the device alive is a 3000 mAh battery which seems quite insufficient to provide a good life-cycle to a 7-incher. Consider the Nexus 7 (2013) takes advantage of a 3950 mAh battery.

The tablet is also 3G ready, so you can go ahead and insert a SIM card into it if you want to. Now, coming to the most important aspect, like in the case of Oppo N1, the DX1 tablet offers a 13MP camera with a 206 degree rotation camera.

The operating system onboard is Android 4.4 KitKat with Chuwi’s own UI plastered on top. This might not agree with stock Android enthusiasts, but hey at least you don’t have to worry about updates.

Like it’s the case with most of the tablets launched by Chinese OEMs, the Chuwi DX1 is currently available for pickup only in China, but it might become eligible for international shipping at a later date.

Chuwei is also in the dual-boot business

In related news, the rotating camera tablet isn't the only new slate coming out of Chuwi’s development labs.

The device maker has also rolled out the V10HD dual-boot tablet, which apparently goes against Microsoft’s and Google’s interdiction related to the building of such products.

The tablet has a 10-inch screen, full HD resolution and takes advantage of a 64-bit Intel Bay Trail processor clocked at 1.83GHz fitted with 2GB of RAM.

Like the rotating camera tablet, the 10-incher takes advantage of both 3G and Wi-Fi and sells for the slightly larger price of $276 / €219.
