Developer and publisher Codemasters has released new information about its upcoming military shooter Operation Flashpoint: Red River and about the characters that will play a part in the single player narrative, inviting players to meet Staff Sergeant Knox.
Knox is the squad leader of the United States Marine Corps force that Red River will be following and his responsibilities and approach to the operation can be summed up in his own words, ”I tell my men all the time, I’m not a Doctor but I am in the lifesaving business. It’s my responsibility to use the knowledge that I have gained to help my marines accomplish their mission with honor and leave here in one piece.”
The new Operation Flashpoint video game takes place in the near future in Tajikistan, where a civil war erupts and the United States military forces come in to quell the conflict.
Forces of the People's Liberation Army also enter the country and when the Americans refuse to leave a new conflict erupts, based mainly around infantry engagements involving specialized fire teams made up of capable fighters.
The game will build on the mechanics shown in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, which is also constructed around a fictional future engagement between China and the United States.
Codeamsters promises that Red River will offer a better and more seamless experience, with four classes available for the player to try out and master as he pushes back insurgents and Chinese military forces.
The new game is also set to expand on the drop in drop out cooperative play that has become a trademark of Operation Flashpoint series.
Operation Flashpoint: Red River will be released for the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC and will use the EGO engine.
