Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has barely left the barrel but it seems it's already managed to impress people. Two days after the official launch in the US a tournament for the game has already been put together. A bit unfair considering that most regions have barely seen the game in stores today, while others are still waiting for it. It could prove to be a bit of a mock tournament, seeing how early it's being organized. Now matter how good the player will be the fact that this is a brand-new game, and a complex one at that, still remains and it will prove difficult for the competitors to exploit all it has to offer.

The gamers that will go head to head on Skira Island will be part of the professional eSports teams Reason Gaming and Team Dignitas, but the organizers of the game will also be in on the action. The company responsible for the tournament, Heaven Media, has put together a team and plans to steal the spotlight of the main battle between the two professional teams. The tournament will span over three nights and at the end the “King of the Hill” title will be given to the one team still standing. The first round was played yesterday, the second will take place tonight and the final showdown will be fought on October 11.

This closed tournament will offer a first look at the multiplayer but since it's so close to the actual release date of the title it will also display the game mechanics themselves. Dragon Rising is a tactical first-person shooter that takes place in an open world environment. A typical battle in the single player usually takes place at around 200-250 meters. It's not the up close, in you face type of game that most shooters are. It's meant to be an as-real-as-possible depiction of the modern war.

“Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is a great new game that we’ve been really excited about, and we’re excited to be able to boast the world’s first esports tournament for this title!” declared Adam Bignell, a member of Esports Heaven management. “It will be a great way to kick start the interest of the community, with two top organizations already supporting teams, and we look forward to more tournaments for this game in the future!”
