Today, Opera officially announced plans to showcase a new flavor of its mobile browser for Android devices at the upcoming 2013 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

The new mobile application will be based on the WebKit standard, which will be widely adopted across the company’s browsers for phones and tablets, the company announced. Opera already offers its browsers on Android, iOS, and other mobile platforms.

The move to WebKit will provide the company with the possibility to grab more share on the smartphone market, Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software, said.

“The first look at what Opera is bringing to the smartphone game as a result of this switch will be shown at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month, with a preview of its upcoming browser for Android,” the software giant added.
