Opera has made available for download a new flavor of its Android browser, one built using the WebKit engine and destined to provide users with a much faster performance than before.

The browser was announced several weeks ago and has been showcased at the Mobile World Congress, where we have had the chance to have a closer look at it.

The new application for Google’s mobile operating system has been built from scratch, but comes with features and capabilities that Opera users have grown fond of.

This includes the speed-dial screen, so that users could pin websites for fast access, along with an off-road mode, which is, basically, the compression technology that powers Opera Mini.

“A completely redesigned browser made just for Android, Opera’s WebKit-based rendering engine offers a whole new level of site compatibility,” Opera notes.

“The native UI also delivers a superior user experience on your smartphone. Be the first of your friends to share a better alternative to the browser that came with your phone.”

According to Opera, the new browser is the fastest they have released on Android, capable of loading web pages almost instantly, while also providing users with important data and money savings.

Furthermore, users will be able to enjoy fast browsing capabilities even when outside 3G or 4G coverage, courtesy of the aforementioned Off-Road Mode.

The Opera browser for Android also comes with a Discover feature, which will provide fast access to news that users are most interested in.

Not to mention that it comes with a download manager, which was meant to offer options such as start, stop, resume, save and rename media files on the device.

For the time being, however, the application might not be compatible with all Android devices out there. Those with incompatible devices are encouraged to download and install Opera Mini.
