One of major Tanzanian major carriers, Vodacom and Opera Software have just announced that they have partnered to bring an improved version of the Opera Mini mobile browser to the carrier's subscribers.

An older version of Vodafone/Opera Mini was previously available for Vodacom subscribers, but it was limited to only few handsets.

However, the new and improved version Opera Mini supports more than 3000 handset models, regardless of the operating system, screen size or amount of memory.

The agreement between Opera Software and Vodacom is part of a global partnership between the former and Vodafone, which focuses on bringing Opera's mobile browsers to the carrier's subscribers around the world.

The software will be available for download, free of charge, to all Vodacom customers with compatible handsets. Vodacom subscribers can now reach the content they want, with less frustration and expense. With just one click,” said Vodacom Tanzania's Chief Officer of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Mwamvita Makamba.

With the latest version of Opera Mini, customers will be provided with a faster browsing experience and super fast loading of webpages.

In addition, the mobile browser solution saves on data costs by compressing the size of the pages before they are delivered, while keeping the same functionality of a normal webpage.

New Vodacom customers who want to download and install the enhanced version of Opera Mini must visit Vodacom's mobile portal, and get it for free.

On the other hand, Vodacom customers who already downloaded and installed the previous version of the Opera Mini will receive a message that will notify them to update to the new version.

Opera believes that Internet access is a universal right, and being part of bringing that to Tanzania is important for us. We welcome Tanzanians to the global Opera family,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software.
